ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The largest grocery stores in the greater St. Louis area will be closed the day after Christmas, for the first time ever. It's part of the new shortened holiday hours happening the next two weekends.

All locations of both Schnucks and Dierbergs will be closing at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will stay closed Saturday and Sunday. Both companies say they hope employees can spend more time with family and friends this year.

The stores will be back to normal hours on Monday, until they will close early on Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. On New Year's Day, all stores won't open until 9 a.m.

After that, it will be back to normal hours.
