The Kansas City Royals losing streak extended to seven games with a 2-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. The Royals record now stands at 82-74. The Royals have only six games remaining in the regular season against the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves. With the Royals’ recent losing streak and the Detroit Tigers winning seven of their last ten games, Kansas City now finds itself in a tie with Detroit for the second wild card spot. In a bit of good news for the Royals, Minnesota lost two out of three games in Boston, and they remain one game behind the Royals and currently occupy the third wild card spot with a record of 81-75.
Kansas City still has a shot at making the playoffs as either the second or third wild card team, but they will need to jump start an offense that scored only one run in three games against San Francisco. The Nationals may be just the team to do so against as they enter this series with a record of 69-87 and have long been out of contention.
With the regular season entering it’s final week, the Royals have not been playing good baseball lately, but if they can finish strong against the Nationals and Braves they will likely still be playing baseball come October.
