This week’s Badass Woman of the Week is Julia Koulouris, co-owner of Heirloom Market at Comstock Ferre in the heart of historic Old Wethersfield.
Julia and her husband, Spiro, took over the historic Comstock Ferre property in 2016, breathing new life into a location with more than two centuries of Connecticut history. Today, Heirloom Market is part café, bakery, market and seed shop — but just as importantly, it has become a true gathering place for the community. Julia has helped preserve the property’s incredible history while creating something distinctly her own. The couple eventually purchased the property in 2020, continuing its connection to heirloom seeds while building Heirloom Market into one of Old Wethersfield’s signature destinations.
And if Heirloom Market looks a little familiar, there’s a reason! The historic property has even appeared in Hallmark Christmas movies, including Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane and Rediscovering Christmas, helping put Old Wethersfield in the national spotlight. Julia Koulouris is preserving a piece of Connecticut history, supporting her community and showing what strong female leadership in local business looks like.
