Hartford, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A team of 11 Connecticut Red Cross volunteers is providing comfort and care to Kentucky residents suffering death, damage and destruction from recent tornadoes, Regional Communications Director Jocelyn Hillard said.
75 are confirmed dead, and 16 are unaccounted for in Kentucky alone.
"As of Wednesday night, 14 Red Cross and community shelters are open in some of the hardest-hit communities in Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. We're providing safe refuge to more than 550 people, the majority of which are in Kentucky. So, we have volunteers there today, continuing to help out, providing that support, comfort and care," Hillard said.
She added the agency has provided two-hundred blood products to area hospitals.
It's unclear how long the team will remain in Kentucky, Hillard said.
