(Kent, Conn./WTIC) - The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down during the severe thunderstorms that moved through Kent in western Connecticut on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Albany determined an EF-0 tornado touched down in southern Kent while an EF-1 tornado touched down in nearby Dutchess County, New York. Both tornadoes occurred around the same time between 2:49 and 2:51 p.m.
There was no signifcant damage or injuries reported in Kent. Several trees came down.
Emergency management director David Becker says severe weather this early in the season should be a reminder to residents that summer storms aren't that far off.
Becker says now is a good time to start refreshing emergency planning for the summer storm season ahead.
He says that means having an emergency kit with non-perishable food, water, batteries, and a radio.
Also have an escape planned if you have to leave suddenly.
And make sure you have a contact list for family and loved ones.
