Residents informed crews upon arrival of smoky conditions on the fourth floor, fire department officials said.

The responding crews found a moderate smoke condition in the common hallway which they traced back to a fourth-floor apartment, officials said.

Firefighters had to force open the door of the apartment, they said. Inside, they found the unconscious resident in the bathroom.

Crews immediately rendered aid to the resident who was then transported to a local hospital. The resident suffered non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

The smoke was caused by food left cooking on the stove top, officials explained, which crews ventilated during their response.
