Officers say 58-year-old Denise Kedzierski of Wilton is charged.

On June 30, witnesses reported seeing the dog inside the vehicle parked in a lot at Southington Care Center on Meriden Avenue.

Kedzierski told police she was gone no more than 20 minutes and that the windows were left open.

Police say the temperature inside the car at the time was 83.8 degrees and the windows were open between two-and-three inches.

They report the Jeep Cherokee was parked in direct sunlight and that the dog was lethargic and breathing heavy when they found it.

Kedzierski is charged with one count of cruelty to animals.

She's free on $5,000 bond and is due in court August 8.
