St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann talks the impact of the tornado in his area with guest host Mike Elam.
“Overall, we had about 30 buildings that were either destroyed or severely damaged but only five of them were homes, so we will be doing everything we can to help those folks. And as you said, it fails in comparison to what happened in Kentucky. As you know that area in Defiance has an interesting historical connection with Kentucky." Michael said, “So we have Daniel Boone as our connection there.”
“Daniel Boone, before the Louisiana Purchase, people from Kentucky including the Boone family came to St. Charles County. We got Lindenwood Park out there, we got Nathan Boone’s home where Daniel spent the last years of his life and the tornado actually touched down two miles from that and was 2,000 yards from the haze house which was built by Daniel Boone’s grandson," Ehlmann says. "But you know what’s interesting about that, that pioneer spirit is still very much alive in that part of our county because man, as soon as that tornado passed through we had people out wanting to start cleaning up, and helping their neighbors, and finding people who might need medical insurance."
