George Rosenthal, an owner of Throttlenet, joins Mark Reardon to explain why iOS users must update their software after a major breach was detected.
The core of the IOS software has a massive vulnerability that’s allowing applications to execute code on their own.

“Imagine an administrator sitting in a different country could take over your iPhone and do anything they wanted,” Throttlenet said, “from installing apps, listening to you, taking over your camera, setting in trackers to track where your go, all those things were able to happen because it was a kernel [or core] level vulnerability.”
The breach allows people to take over the core of the software and run your phone without you knowing a single thing about it. High profile people and journalists are more likely to get targeted than the average person, according to Throttlenet.
“A lot of people will wait on a software update like that because they don’t want any bugs in the system…but now, this is not like that. If you have an iPhone or you have an iPad, you need to go out and update the software as soon as you get home.”
To update an Apple device, go to Settings → General → Software Update.
