Senator Rand Paul told 97.1 FM Talk earlier this week that he would be introducing an amendment that would assign an inspector general role to oversee the spending of the $40 billion Ukraine aid package.
Ultimately his objection to passing the package without reform has delayed the process until at least next week.
Jim Carafano has been an outspoken advocate of Ukraine but says he understands Paul’s actions.
“One, we should have an honest examination of what the money is for and whether it makes sense or not. And two, we should go back and we should reallocate funds that have already been allocated that haven’t been spent,” says Carafano.
Carafano says government officials can’t “cherry-pick” their responsibilities and fiscal stability is one of them.
“You need a country that’s free, a country that is safe, and a country that is prosperous.”
