After being asked on Sunday whether or not she would be chosen as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the upcoming election, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) said that there were ‘a lot’ of people being discussed.
Stefanik was asked about being chosen as Trump’s Vice President while appearing on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
On Saturday, Stefanik was among many potential VP picks at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
The New York Republican was asked if she was brought up on stage during a speech Trump gave as a potential running mate, to which she responded that there were many Republicans with her.
“Oh, we had a lot of great members there,” she said. “What really came out across to me, Maria, was how unified the Republican Party is and how many rising stars we had. There’s a lot of names that are in the mix. I’m honored to have my name as one of them in the mix right now.”
NBC News reported that the Republicans, which included South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, were attending the Republican National Committee’s spring retreat.
Stefanik went on to share that the appearance of the top Republicans showed the party’s “strength” ahead of the 2024 election.
“You have so many up-and-comers who are working hard every day to save America. And this is really a unified campaign to support President Trump … who will save this country this November,” she said.
Many continue to speculate who Trump will select as his running mate. Stefanik did not rule out the possibility, though the former president has yet to show his hand.
