By Ron Davis:
It was a strange and frustrating day all around for both the Padres and their fans Sunday afternoon, as they lost to the Miami Marlins 9-3. Besides the rarely seen 3:10 PM Sunday start time, the game took an extremely odd turn in the 3rd inning after a swarm of bees settled on a microphone on the netting behind home plate, resulting in a 28 minute stoppage of play. Padres starter Matt Strahm retired the first three batters he faced in the game, but labored through his remaining 3.1 innings of work as he allowed 7 earned runs on 7 hits (including 2 home runs) after the first inning. The Padres offense was unable to pick up the slack once again, as they were only able to produce 4 hits for the second consecutive game. The Padres will have to regroup quickly from a wacky Sunday as they welcome the Philiadelphia Phillies to town for a 3 game set starting Monday night. Our pregame coverage on 97.3 The Fan will begin at 6:10 PM with Derek Togerson, Ted Leitner and Jesse Agler will have the call starting at 7:10 PM.
