Padres pound Rockies 7-1

by Nick Doyle

SAN DIEGO----- The San Diego Padres (54-61) dominate the visiting Colorado Rockies (52-64) in their second game of the 4 game series. The Padres seemed to acquire this victory with ease while coasting smoothly behind rookie Cal Quantrill, who tossed a scoreless 7 innings. The right hander has impressively improved his game over the past two months and plans to secure himself a spot in the future pitching rotation. Quantrill finished his 7 inning outing with five punch outs, allowing five hits (all singles), and no walks. The Padres bullpen held strong tonight after being handed the keys after 7 frames. The offensive attack for the Rockies was non-existent tonight. The team in purple and black did not aboard more than one man in any of the innings versus Quantrill. Quantrill now holds a 1.62 ERA since his return into the rotation back in July.

The Padres’ scoring spree started up in the bottom of the 3rd with Fernando Tatis Jr.’s line drive double into center field to score Manuel Margot and Luis Urias. Tatis Jr. has extended his hit streak to a career-high 13 games.  Later on in the 5th, Myers knocks a single to right field to score Luis Urias. Myers has now hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games versus Colorado this season, including 3 doubles, 3 home runs, and 8 RBIs. Josh Naylor drives a 3-run home run to add to the Padres lead. Naylor hit the Padres’ 8th PH home run this season.

The only run tallied by the Rockies came in the 9th. The right hander, Gerado Reyes is responsible for this earned run and was relieved shortly after  by Luis Perdomo. The Padres look to win the series tomorrow starting with the Padres Geico Pregame show with Braden Surprenant at 4:40 pm leading up to the first pitch at 5:40pm. Tune in to 97.3 The Fan!
