The Padres won their second consecutive game in Seattle, beating the Mariners 7-4 on Saturday evening. Walker Buehler continued to impress, striking out six while allowing just two runs in five innings of work. The story of the game however was the long ball, as the Padres went deep three times, helping distance themselves from the Mariners. Gavin Sheets got the Padres on the board with a solo homer in the 2nd, and then following an RBI-groundout from Miguel Andujar in the 4th inning, Nick Castellanos mashed a 3-run homer to put the Padres on top 5-0 . After Seattle pushed two runs across the board, Rodolfo Duran hit his first career long ball, a 2-run shot in the 7th inning to put San Diego up 7-2. The Mariners got those two runs back in the bottom of the frame however, as the Padres led the game 7-4 entering the 9th inning. Duran nearly hit his second career home run, but Julio Rodriguez skied high in the air and reached over the wall to rob Duran of a 2-run blast, keeping Seattle's deficit at two heading into the bottom of the 9th. Craig Stammen turned to Jeremiah Estrada after Mason Miller threw 34 pitches on Friday night, and after retiring the leadoff hitter he faced, Estrada walked Connor Joe and gave up a single to JP Crawford, bringing the tying run to the plate with just one out. After saving two runs with his home run robbery in the top of the 9th, Julio Rodriguez had a chance to tie the game with a home run of his own in the bottom of the frame, but he grounded into a fielder's choice at third base. Estrada then got Josh Naylor to ground out to first base to end the game, as the Padres improved to 27-18. The Padres will go for a sweep of the Mariners on Sunday when Lucas Giolito makes his season debut for the Padres.
