Picking up where they left off after taking the final five games of their most recent road trip to St. Louis and Los Angeles, the San Diego Padres returned home Monday night and beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-1, for their sixth-consecutive victory.

Dinelson Lamet went seven strong innings for San Diego, which climbed a game over the .500 mark at 21-20 on the season. Manny Machado homered in his third consecutive game, a solo shot in the third inning, that eventually accounted for the deciding run.

Machado had a big game, with three hits and four RBIs. His ground out produced the game’s first run off Gio Gonzalez in the bottom of the first inning. Then he homered in the third and came through with a clinching two-run single to make it 5-0 in the fifth.

Chicago threatened often against Lamet, but could not break through. The White Sox stranded 10 base runners and had just one hit in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position. The Chicago run came in the eighth on an RBI ground out by Jose Abreu.
