Zach Davies scattered eight hits in a complete-game shutout, and Manny Machado blasted a pair of two-run homers as the San Diego Padres blanked the Los Angeles, 6-0, for their fourth straight victory on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.
San Diego (19-20) has won six of eight overall and four of five from Los Angeles this season. Davies allowed a hit eight of the nine innings, and the leadoff runner for Los Angeles reached seven times. But Davies, in picking up his first victory of the year, stranded 10 runners and held the Dodgers without a hit in 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Machado’s first two home-run game of the season carried the Padres’ offense. He homered with a man on in the first inning off Julio Urias for a 2-0 lead, then connected again in the third with a runner aboard to make it 4-0. Tommy Pham singled to cap a two-run sixth for San Diego and wrap up the scoring.
Meanwhile, Davies pitched around a hit batter and a one-out single by pinch-hitter A.J. Pollock in the seventh. He stranded Cody Bellinger after a leadoff double in the eighth. And he closed out his shutout by retiring Cory Seager on a fly ball to center after Enrique Hernandez had tripled with two outs in the ninth.
