I'm a golf fan. I have always been a golf fan, and I always will be a golf fan. I know that I am at a different level than the average person when it comes to golf related activities. So I am not trying to come off as a golf snob, because I am not. I am just someone who has watched a lot of professional golf!
I love watching golf because there is always a front row seat to some of the best in the world. It's the only sport that you can be so close to. And I have concocted the perfect plan for watching the legend Tiger Woods in person.
First rule of Tiger watching is to never, ever, ever go to where the crowd is. You will never be able to get a good look walking straight to the source.
Second rule of Tiger watching is to know the golf course. If you want to get the best look at Tiger, you need to position yourself in the right places. Know where the landing areas are for drives. Look for the area near the green where the pros miss the most. If you want to see him drive the ball, post up on a par 4 or 5.
The third rule of Tiger watching is to be prepared for the Tiger surge at the green. When Tiger Woods walks up to the green, so do 20 or so more people. Media, security, camera crew teams, etc. These people can sometimes stop right in front of you, and you have no say. Make sure you know where they will be standing. Most likely near the exit to the next tee box.
The fourth rule of Tiger watching is to map out your route. Know how to get places efficiently. There will be a lot of people just following each other like sheep. Know where to go and get there BEFORE the zombie herd of people gets there. Then, you need to hold your ground. People are going to be fighting to get closer and it will get a little crazy. Stand your ground! You may think I am kidding, but I'm not. When I was at the tournament last year, there was a guy that knocked over an old woman trying to get a better glimpse of Tiger.
This leads me to the fifth and final Tiger watching rule. Take all of what I said prior and put it into action. The most important part of this whole thing is staying ahead of the aforementioned zombie herd of fellow Tiger watchers. If Tiger is on 1 on the North course, and you want to see him drive the ball up close and personal, go to 4. Find a perfect spot right in front, at the angle you want, and camp out for a bit. Then you get to watch other golfers go through, and be up close and personal to some of the best in the world. But when Tiger goes through you will get to see exactly what you want, with a front row seat.
If we are staying with the North course, I would probably then go hit the green on the 8th hole. Not only will I get to see Tiger tee off at a closer distance, I will have an up close look at Tiger's shot hitting the green, then him on the green itself.
There is a strategy to it! Know what you want to do, and do it! Inspirational Skraby quote of the week. :)
