It's that time of year again! The 2019 San Diego County Fair kicks off on Friday, May 31st and runs through July 4th at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
There's no place like the fair, there's no place like the fair… and this year's theme is inspired by the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
If you're like us, you can't wait to see what new crazy concoctions and fried fare there is to try each year.
Buffalo Chicken Chimichanga
You can always count on Chicken Charlie's for something creative. New this year, you can try the Buffalo Chicken Chimichanga. And yes, that's Flamin' Hot Cheeto dust on top.
Deep Fried Kool-Aid Crème Brulee
A new fried sweet treat from Chicken Charlie's this year: the Deep Fried Kool-Aid Crème Brulee.
OzSome Crunch Roll
Another 'Oz-some' new offering this year is the OzSome Crunch Roll – a Country Fair Cinnamon Roll topped with frosting and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
Good Witch Toast / Wicked Witch Toast
Continuing with the theme, this offering has something for the Good Witch or the Wicked Witch in you. (We say try 'em both!)
The Good Witch Toast has black pepper ricotta, black mission figs, lavender honey, and Hawaiian black sea salt.
The Wicked Witch Toast is topped with edamame hummus, oven roasted tomatoes, petite greens, and smoked pepitas.
'Over The Rainbow' Summer Salad
If you need some freshness to balance out all the fried fair food, this comes with greens, corn, avocado, blue cheese, bellpepper, blackberries, and a blackberry vinaigrette.
Scarecrow Dog
Pink's Hot Dogs has created the Scarecrow Dog – mild Polish dog, chipotle mayo, grilled red peppers, fried onions, and fried jalapenos. Yum!
Cardiff Crack BBQ Slider
Seaside Market in Cardiff is known for their 'Cardiff Crack' marinated tri-tip. Here it is in slider form.
Bacon and Cheese Pupusas
Bacon-A-Fair has a new item this year: bacon pupusas! They come in Bacon & Cheese and Bacon, Beans, & Cheese.
Triple Decker Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger
This is a standby favorite at Chicken Charlie's. What more can we say? 3 patties, 3 slices of cheese, sandwiched between glazed donuts.
Krispy Kreme Fried Chicken Sandwich
An impressive piece of fried chicken from Chicken Charlie's dwarfs the Krispy Kreme bun.
