Whenever a major championship is won in sports, there always seems to be some fan who resurfaces his/her tweet in which the exact outcome of the game or series was predicted, to a T, months ago. Sometimes the tweet occurred in the middle of the season, sometimes before the season had even started and sometimes, in rare cases, years and years ahead of time. Way more often than not, however, it seems like these "predictions" were part of a group of auto-generated outcomes in which every possible result was accounted for — and then deleted — before the correct post surfaced.

But a former MLB player is someone that we can trust wouldn't do such a thing, and in the case of former infielder Trevor Plouffe — now a host and analyst with Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Baseball" — his lone prediction was spot on.

Back in late March, right before the season began, Plouffe harmlessly predicted that the Atlanta Braves — then led by superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. — would take the Houston Astros to six games in the World Series and win it all.

Obviously, as the series progressed, the guys became more and more excited about Plouffe's chances to have nailed this absurdly lucky prediction.

Unfortunately, none of those headlines are true — yet! — and the one I went with will have to suffice for Coach Trev. Still, it's insane that Plouffe got it right, though the two teams he was looking at then look different than the two teams we saw in the World Series, specifically on the winning side. After all, World Series MVP Jorge Soler was on the Kansas City Royals when Plouffe made his prediction. Eddie Rosario was with Cleveland. Joc Pederson was a Cub. Adam Duvall was a Marlin. Mike Soroka was expected to return to the rotation at some point. And, though I already mentioned this before, I can't stress enough just how much Ronald Acuña Jr. meant to this team.

According to FiveThirtyEight's preseason projections, the Astros and the Braves were both top-eight teams in baseball heading into the season, with eight percent and four percent chances to win the World Series, respectively. So you can see just how small the percentages were for Plouffe to hit the nail square on the head — not to mention picking the exact game in which the series would end — all the way back in March.

Unfortunately, Plouffe didn't have any sort of bet on his predicted outcome, but he used his incredible foresight — or pure luck — for a better cause than putting money into his own wallet.
