After getting dispatched by the 49ers earlier in the season, the Cowboys’ forthcoming meeting with the Eagles is a fresh opportunity for Dallas to prove it is among the NFL’s elite.

That clearly is not lost on Jerry Jones.

The Cowboys sit at 5-2 after throttling the Rams over the weekend. They now turn their attention to their first of two meetings with the Eagles, which will be Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.

Dallas has responded well with a pair of wins since getting pummeled by San Francisco, but the Eagles are a different beast than the Rams and Chargers – and playing in Philly brings its own set of challenges, as well. Jones hesitated to consider it a measuring stick game, but underscored its importance Tuesday in his weekly appearance with Shan & RJ.

“Yeah, this is easy for me to say, but this is serious s–t that we’re dealing with up there,” Jones said. “We’ve got to really have our game face on. Philadelphia is a tough place to get your momentum going, but it’s all there. To me, this is all about just what the NFL can be.”

The Cowboys and Eagles split their season series in 2022, with the home team winning each game. Getting a road win against the Eagles would be a huge boost for the Cowboys, and would inch them closer to potentially supplanting Philly in the NFC East standings.
