Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy may no longer play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his former teammates still have his back.

McCoy, who signed with the Carolina Panthers in June after nine seasons with the Bucs, could not attend his son Marcellus Crutchfield’s Senior Night at Tampa Catholic on Friday because the Panthers were traveling to San Francisco for their game against the 49ers.

That’s when a few a McCoy’s old teammates decided to step up.

In an Instagram video McCoy posted on his page, Bucs players Donovan Smith, Lavonte David, Jameis Winston and Mike Evans are shown delivering a video message to McCoy from the Tampa Catholic football field.

McCoy’s former teammates decided to attend the game on his behalf to support Crutchfield on a night when all the senior players were celebrated.

“What’s up G? It’s your boys,” David says in the video with the others around him. “Here man, supporting you, supporting Marcellus. We know you couldn’t be here. I know this is a big one for you. We wanted to be here to represent for you, man, let you know that we love you. We always appreciate you, we always part of the family.”

McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowler, said in the Instagram caption that it “hurt” him he could not attend, but appreciated the gesture from his former teammates.

“In my time in the NFL I’ve grown to earn true brothers,” he wrote. “And this is an example of that!!”
