NBA legend Ray Allen has played alongside a number of great players in his nearly two-decade-long career. None may have been as gifted or as talented as LeBron James -- who he was teammates in Miami from 2012-14, winning a championship in 2013.
However, despite witnessing the King in action during the height of his prime, Allen isn't buying the narrative that James is the greatest player ever.
During a video clip that was captured by a fan from the Commonwealth Academy in Rhode Island, the conversation began when the young hooper asked Allen who is his "GOAT," bringing up how it's James because he can both "score and pass it."
Allen thinks those aren't the only indicators of greatness.
“Is he a great free throw shooter? Is he a great three-point shooter? Is he a great dribbler?” Allen asked. “So you’re saying he’s the GOAT and he ain’t even the greatest in all those categories.”
He then walked away from the kids in a mic drop moment, leaving us to guess who exactly is his greatest player of all time.
Even if Allen were to say the other obvious choice like Michael Jordan -- his metrics for greatness wouldn't exactly line up with what Allen goes by. Jordan was definitely a better free throw shooter than James, (83.5 to 73.4) but shot worse from the field and from three-point range.
What makes Allen's argument even more baffling is that he played against some of the greatest players in NBA history when he came into the league in 96'. Guys like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan and many others ruled in an era that produced a ton of great talents.
The only player that could possibly meet Allen's metrics is Stephen Curry which may be his answer. Whoever his "GOAT" is, Allen's reasoning is something that he should've kept to himself....or maybe just not say it out loud while fans record.
