The Padres lost 4-3 to the Giants on Monday night in the first game of their homestand after being swept in LA by the Dodgers. Nestor Cortes surrendered three first inning home runs to put the Padres in a 4-0 hole early on. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Xander Bogaerts hit what appeared to be a solo home run, but it was overturned upon review for what was called spectator interference. That was a questionable ruling to say the least, which led to Mike Shildt's ejection, and would loom large over the rest of the game.
The Padres scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, including a pinch-hit two-run homer from Ryan O'Hearn off of starter Robby Ray, to bring the Padres to within a run. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Padres would get, as fans were left wondering what could have been if Bogaerts' home run weren't overturned, seemingly incorrectly.
