The Padres improved to 2-0 with a 4-3 win thanks to Jake Cronenworth's late-game heroics. Both starting pitchers struggled, as Dylan Cease and Reynaldo Lopez each allowed 3 earned runs without pitching into the 6th inning. Fernando Tatis continued to excel in the leadoff spot, blasting a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 1st inning. Martin Maldonado delivered an RBI-single in the 2nd inning in his first start with the Padres. Marcel Ozuna tied the game with a 2-run single off of Cease in the 3rd inning that just made it through the infield. Xander Bogaerts broke the tie with a hard-hit RBI-double back up the middle in the bottom of the frame to put the Padres back on top 3-2. Jarred Kelenic tied the game once again with a solo homer off of Cease. With the game still tied in the bottom of the 8th, Jake Cronenworth blasted his first home run of the season to put the Padres on top for good. With one more win on Saturday or Sunday, the Padres will secure an opening series win against the Braves.
