For the second night in a row, the Padres got 6 innings of one-hit ball from their starting pitcher. After Yu Darvish allowed just a solo homer through 6 innings in Friday's win against the Dodgers, Nestor Cortes took a perfect game into the 6th inning. Miguel Rojas broke up his perfect outing with a single to right field with one out, but Cortes retired the next two batters he faced to complete quite an impressive performance from the newly acquired lefty.
Ramon Laureano continued to make his presence felt with the Padres, delivering a two-run single in the 4th inning. Jake Cronenworth then drove in Xander Bogaerts with a sac-fly to make it a 3-0 lead for the Friars. After Alex Freeland's pinch-hit homer in the 8th inning off Jeremiah Estrada got the Dodgers within two runs, Xander Bogaerts delivered two crucial insurance runs with a double down the right field line in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Padres secured the series win with Saturday's victory, and will have a chance to sweep the Dodgers with a win on Sunday. Nick Pivetta will start against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
