The Padres evened up their series with the Braves on Friday night with a 5-4 win. It was an especially impressive win when you consider the bullpen needed to do some heavy lifting again. Nick Martinez gave up 4 earned runs over 4.2 innings on 4 hits and 5 walks. After Nick Martinez walked in the tying run with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 5th inning, Brent Honeywell came in and struck out Eddie Rosario to end the inning and leave the bases loaded with the game tied. Honeywell would get 6 crucial outs all told.
Xander Bogaerts continued his torrid start to the season, driving in Trent Grisham with an RBI-single in the top of the 6th inning to put the Padres back on top. Luis Garcia bounced back in a big way, getting 4 outs and handing the ball off to Josh Hader with a 1-run lead in the 9th inning, and the birthday boy slammed the door shut, earning his 2nd save of the season.
