The Padres defeated the Mariners 2-0 on a night when Yu Darvish was simply magnificent. Darvish tossed 8 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits, to go along with 7 strikeouts and no walks. Wil Myers got the Padres on the board with an RBI-double in the 4th inning off of Logan Gilbert, and that 1-0 lead would stand until the Padres tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning. Despite throwing just 94 pitches, Bob Melvin elected to take Yu Darvish out of the game, and brought Josh Hader in to pitch the bottom of the 9th with a 2-run lead. Hader struck out Sam Haggerty and J.P. Crawford to begin the inning, before giving up a single to Julio Rodriguez and bringing the tying run to the plate with 2 outs. Hader would strikeout Ty France to secure the save and the win for the Friars.
