The Padres bounced back to beat the Mets 4-2 on Tuesday night behind a strong pitching effort from Ryan Weathers, who allowed just 1 run in 5 innings of work. Trailing 1-0 in the 5th inning, Manny Machado ripped a 2-strike 2-out 2-run double to put the Padres on top 2-1. The Padres' bullpen combined to throw three consecutive shutout innings heading into the 9th. Xander Bogaerts gave the Padres two insurance runs on his fourth home run of the season. Josh Hader entered in the bottom of the 9th inning with a 3-run lead, and walked two of the first three batters he faced. With two men on and one out, Tommy Pham drove in Pete Alonso with an RBI-single, cutting the Padres lead to two runs, with the go-ahead run at the plate. But Hader would get Tomas Nido to groundout and then Francisco Alvarez to strike out, earning him his fourth save of the season.
