The Padres earned their second consecutive series win with an 8-2 win over the Pirates on Wednesday. The game was much closer than the score indicated for much of the contest, as things got away from the Pirates late after lifting Mitch Keller after just 75 pitches. Michael King threw 6 shutout innings, and came back out to begin the 7th, but was lifted after allowing two straight base hits to begin the inning. Kyle Hart entered the game and allowed both runners to come home, with both runs being charged to King. The Padres broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 7th inning that began with Xander Bogaerts reaching base safely on a throwing error by Nick Gonzales. Miguel Andujar and Nick Castellanos hit consecutive doubles, the latter of which brought home two runs. Then Jake Cronenworth blasted a 2-run homer to deep right center to put the Friars on top 4-0. The Padres would make it a laugher by adding 4 more runs in the top of the 9th inning on 3 hits and 2 Pittsburgh errors, ending the road trip on a high note. The Padres return home to begin a series with the Rockies on Thursday.
