The Padres defeated the Tigers 5-4 on Friday, thanks to an offensive explosion from Juan Soto, who went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Soto got things started with a 447 blast to center in the 1st inning. Jake Cronenworth then drove in 2 with a triple to deep center, giving the Padres a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Soto then crushed a 463 foot 2-run homer to left-center in the 3rd inning. The Tigers clawed their way back into the game, as Zach McKinstry hit a solo homer in the 5th, Nick Maton hit an RBI-sacrifice fly in the 6th, and then Riley Greene added a 2-run homer in the 7th off of Nick Martinez to pull the Tigers within a run. Robert Suarez made his season debut in the 8th inning, and pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning. Josh Hader then slammed the door shut in the 9th to earn his 24th save of the year.
