In one of the wildest games of the season, the Padres beat the Diamondbacks 10-5 in 11 innings, coming from behind twice to do so. The Padres fell behind 2-0 in the 1st inning after Lourdes Gurriel's two-run homer, but quickly tied it up in the following inning thanks to a solo home run from Xander Bogaerts and an RBI-double from Jake Cronenworth. After Arizona tacked on another run in the 4th, the Padres tied it up on Fernando Tatis Jr.'s bases loaded walk, but failed to score more runs and take the lead. Ramon Laureano continued to impress for the Padres, delivering a go-ahead 2-run double in the 7th inning for what appeared to potentially be the decisive scores for the Padres and their elite bullpen.
Jeremiah Estrada pitched a scoreless 7th inning for the Padres, and Mason Miller entered to pitch the 8th with a 2-run lead. With two outs, he issued a walk to Gerardo Perdomo, and then was one strike away from getting out of the inning, but Lourdes Gurriel hit a 2-run game-tying home run on a 104 mph fastball, his second 2-run homer of the game.
Mike Shildt called upon Wandy Peralta to pitch the bottom of the 9th with the score tied at 5, seemingly trying to save Robert Suarez for extra innings. But after two men reached base with one out, Suarez entered the game to try and escape the jam and send the game to extras. Suarez did just that, retiring each of the two batters he faced.
Jose Iglesias led off the 10th by laying down a sac bunt to move Jake Cronenworth to 3rd base, but then Freddy Fermin and Fernando Tatis Jr. grounded out to shortstop to strand him at third. Suarez returned to pitch the 10th inning, and with the fleet-footed Corbin Carroll beginning the inning on second base, Mike Shildt intentionally walked Ketel Marte to begin the inning. Suarez then got Perdomo to pop out, followed by Jose Iglesias turning an insane double play, fielding a grounder, stepping on third and then throwing across the diamond to escape the jam without allowing a run.
The Padres made sure to put things out of reach in the 11th inning, pushing 5 runs across home plate. San Diego got run-scoring hits from Luis Arraez, Ramon Laureano (his third hit of the game) and Freddy Fermin, plus productive, run-scoring outs from Jackson Merrill and Jake Cronenworth. David Morgan pitched a 1-2-3 11th inning, and the Padres earned one of their best wins of the season on the road here at Chase Field.
