Dylan Cease's Padres debut didn't go the way he had hoped, as he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) in just 4.2 innings. Cease tossed 84 pitches, only 50 for strikes while striking out 6. It was a tight 3-1 game entering the 8th inning, but the Giants rallied for 6 runs, punctuated by Michael Conforto's grand slam. The Padres didn't roll over however, as Eguy Rosario hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th inning, forcing Bob Melvin to bring in his closer Camilo Doval. The Giants' All Star closer and reigning NL saves leader entered in a non-save situation, and proceeded to give up a 3-run homer to Graham Pauley, which was his first career hit. 9-6 would be as close as the Padres would come, as Doval nailed down the final outs to give the Giants a win for the second night in a row. The Padres will look to split their opening 4-game series when they send Michael King to the mound on Sunday.
