The Padres competed their first 3-game sweep of the season with a 5-3 win on Wednesday evening. holding Shohei Ohtani hitless over three games in the process. This game was a back and forth affair that saw seven lead changes plus ties, but the Padres prevailed, taking a 4-3 lead in the 7th inning on a run-scoring groundout from Xander Bogaerts. Manny Machado drew a bases loaded walk in the 8th inning to add an insurance run. Bob Melvin made an unconventional decision in the 9th inning, electing to pitch Josh Hader for a third consecutive day, something Hader hadn't done all season. Hader came through and earned his 20th save of the season.
