The Padres dropped their third game in a row on Saturday evening, losing to the Rays 4-1. The Padres' offense continued to struggle while missing several core players. They entered the game with a streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings, and didn't score their first run of the game until Fernando Tatis' RBI-single in the 6th inning, snapping their streak at 30 innings. Dylan Cease allowed 2 runs in the 3rd inning, but one of the runs was unearned after Xander Bogaerts' error on a popup that he and Jose Iglesias had miscommunication on. Cease got into a bases loaded, no out jam in the 5th inning, that led to Tampa's third run. Cease struck out Christopher Morel, and then was relieved by Yuki Matsui, who allowed just one of the runs to score on a sacrifice fly. The Padres will try to avoid being swept at home with Randy Vasquez on the mound on Sunday.
