The Padres dropped the series opener to Brewers 7-3 in Milwaukee on Friday night, as Yu Darvish struggled for the 3rd straight outing. Darvish allowed 5 earned runs through 4 innings of work, after allowing 4 earned runs in each of his previous two starts. Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff was on point however, allowing just 1 run on a solo homer to Manny Machado and striking out 11 over 6 innings. The Brewers struck out 17 Padres hitters in total, and though the Padres were able to add 2 runs in the 9th inning on a long ball from Gary Sanchez, it was too little too late, as the Padres lost 7-3. It was notable that Rich Hill entered the game in relief in the 5th inning, after being expected to piggyback after Pedro Avila on Saturday.
