The Padres lost 6-5 to the Cardinals in 10 innings on Tuesday night, squandering another quality start from their starting rotation. Seth Lugo allowed 3 runs (2 earned) and struck out 6 over 6 innings, and exited the game with a 4-3 lead. Ha-Seong Kim drove in an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the 8th inning to give the Padres a 2-run lead, but Robert Suarez served up a 2-run game-tying home run to Willson Contreras. After a scoreless 9th inning, the Padres' extra inning woes continued, as they failed to drive in their automatic runner from 2nd base. Josh Hader was called upon in the bottom of the 10th to try and extend the game. After a sac-bunt moved the automatic runner to 3rd base with 1 out, Paul Goldschmidt was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Tommy Edman to drive in the game-winning run with a single to left field. Rich Hill will draw the start on Wednesday in the series finale.
