The Padres will begin their season in a week and a half in Seoul, South Korea against the Dodgers. On Monday morning, the Padres announced that they'd hand the ball to Yu Darvish for Game 1. Darvish had an up and down 2023 season, finishing with a record of 8-10 and a 4.56 ERA. Darvish made his final start of the season in late August before being shut down for the remainder of the season due to a stress reaction on the tip of his right elbow.

The announcement of Darvish starting Game 1 all but assures that Joe Musgrove will take the mound in the second game. The Dodgers announced that Tyler Glasnow will start the first game, followed by Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2.
