According to multiple media reports, the Padres and Michael King have agreed on a 3-year contract for $75 million that contains opt-outs after each of the first two years. The contract gives King security should he get hurt again or have a down season while also allowing him to hit the free agent market again if he has a strong season. King was the centerpiece in the return from the Yankees when the Padres sent Juan Soto to New York. In 2 seasons with San Diego, King has a 3.10 ERA with with a 134 ERA+ and struck out 10.1 batters per 9 innings, while finishing 7th in NL Cy Young voting in 2024. King joins Nick Pivetta and Joe Musgrove at the top of the Padres' starting rotation.
