On a night where the Padres struggled at the dish, the pitching staff picked them up, shutting out the Athletics 2-0. Lucas Giolito hurled five scoreless frames in his second appearance in the brown and gold, handing things over to Craig Stammen's dream scenario of Jeremiah Estrada-Adrian Morejon-Jason Adam-Mason Miller in relief. On the offensive side of the ball, the Padres' mustered just two hits, but displayed patience at the plate, as they drew eight bases on balls. The Padres scored their first run in the second inning when Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but that would be the only run they score with that threat. Then in the third, Ty France's RBI-groundout to shortstop brought home Nick Castellanos. Those would be the game's only runs. The Athletics threatened several times, but Ty France engineered three double plays to terminate those threats, including a 3-6-3 double play with the bases loaded in the 4th inning. The Padres will send Michael King to the mound on Sunday with a chance to sweep the Athletics.
