Nick Pivetta pitched an absolute gem in his Padres debut, as the Friars swept the Braves to begin their season 4-0. Pivetta twirled 7 scoreless frames, while he Jason Adam and Jeremiah Estrada combined to face the minimum 27 batters in this affair. Pivetta allowed just one hit while Adam issued a base on balls, but in both instances the Braves grounded into double plays.
Manny Machado put the Padres on top early with an RBI-double in the 1st inning. Xander Bogaerts drove in Jake Cronenworth with an RBI-double in the 3rd inning, Jackson Merrill delivered an RBI-double in the 7th, and Brandon Lockridge had an RBI-double of his own in the 8th. Tatis then drove in Lockridge with a single he tried to stretch into a double, but was thrown out. This is just the second time in franchise history that the Padres have started out 4-0. They'll welcome the Guardians to town on Monday.
