The Padres authored their most dramatic win of the young season on Monday night, beating the Diamondbacks 5-4. Juan Soto hit his first homer of the season in the first inning to give the Friars an early 2-0 lead. Manny Machado's RBI-single in the 2nd put the Padres up 3-2. Arizona rookie Corbin Carroll would tie the game at 3 with a solo homer in the 7th inning, and Evan Longoria broke the tie, putting the Diamondbacks up 4-3 with a solo shot off of Steven Wilson in the top of the 9th inning. Bob Melvin pulled all the right strings though. Earlier in the game, Bob Melvin inserted Jose Azocar as a defensive replacement, and Azocar made a terrific catch in right field. Then he inserted David Dahl as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 9th to face Arizona closer Scott McGough, and Dahl hit a solo homer to tie the game, followed by Ha-Seong Kim hitting a walk-off homer for back-to-back home runs to end the game. Ryan Weathers pitched well for the Padres, allowing just 2 runs in 5 innings pitched.
