According to a report from MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, the Astros are targeting Padres hitting coach Victor Rodriguez for the same position on their staff. Rodriguez has been the hitting coach for the Padres for the previous two seasons, following stints with both the Red Sox and Guardians. In the 2025 season, the Padres finished 7th in all of baseball in team batting average behind Rodriguez's contact-driven team plate approach, but struggled in the power department, finishing 22nd in team slugging percentage and 28th in home runs.
