According to MLB reporter Daniel Alavarez-Montes, the Padres have signed former All-Star catcher Elias Diaz to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million, with a mutual option for 2026, pending a physical. Diaz was signed by San Diego late in the 2024 season, and appeared in 12 regular season games for the Padres. Diaz hit 1 home run with 3 rbis and a .720 OPS in 21 at-bats for the Friars. Diaz is expected to compete for playing time with Luis Campusano and Martin Maldonado during spring training.
