The Padres got more bad news on the injury front prior to the start of Saturday's game against the Braves. Jason Heyward was placed on the 10-day IL with a strained oblique and Michael King experienced right shoulder stiffness, preventing him from starting the game as scheduled. Sean Reynolds started in his place on short notice. After allowing one run through two innings on a dribbler down the third base line that hit the bag, allowing Alex Verdugo to score from third base, Reynolds ran into trouble in the 3rd inning. Manny Machado tied the game with an RBI-single in the top of the frame, but Reynolds gave up a solo homer to Matt Olson and a double to Austin Riley, and wasn't able to complete the third inning. Wandy Peratlta would give up an RBI-single to Ozzie Albies, making it 3-1 Atlanta.
The Braves added on two runs in the 6th and 7th innings, while Manny Machado's third inning RBI-single would drive in the team's only run, as the Padres collectively went 1-10 with runners in scoring position. That was juxtaposed against the Braves going 5-12 with RISP, while their starter Grant Holmes hurled 7 innings on just 94 pitches. The Padres still have a chance to win the series with Dylan Cease on the mound on Sunday.
