San Diego State defeated #1 overall seed Alabama 71-64, to advance to the Elite 8 for the first time in school history. Matt Bradley struggled mightily, shooting just 2-9 from the field, but Darrion Trammell had the game of his life, pouring in 21 points on 9-16 shooting, including 3-5 from beyond the arc. Nathan Mensah locked things down on defense, blocking 5 shots while grabbing 8 rebounds. It wasn't an easy win, as Alabama cut into the Aztecs lead, drawing to within 2 points with 47 seconds remaining on a layup by Mark Sears. But those points would be the last points the Crimson Tide would score, as the Aztecs tightened up their defense and made the necessary free throws to close out the game. The Aztecs will face the winner of #6 Creighton vs. #15 Princeton in the Elite 8 on Sunday.
