San Diego State lost an absolute heartbreaker to Fresno State, blowing an 11 point lead with under one minute remaining. Things started so well for the Aztecs. Making his third start at quarterback, Jalen Mayden played well for most of the game, until some late turnovers changed the outcome of the game. Mayden completed 19 of 24 passes for 291 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and a lost fumble, while adding 43 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. After the Bulldogs scored first with a 35 yard field goal in the first quarter, Mayden responded with a 28 yard rushing touchdown and then a 26 yard passing touchdown to Kenan Christon to put the Aztecs up 14-3.

Jake Haener hit Nikko Remigio for a 21 yard touchdown to draw the Bulldogs to within 4, but Mayden would add another rushing touchdown to give San Diego State a 21-10 lead at the half. Mayden tossed a touchdown pass to Jesse Matthews, his first of the season, with 3:27 remaining in the 3rd quarter to put SDSU up three scores, but Fresno State wouldn't go away, as Haener threw a touchdown pass to Zane Pope after Matthews muffed a punt inside the 10 yard line that Fresno State recovered. Patrick McMorris picked off Haener in the end zone late in the 4th quarter which seemed like the nail in the coffin with the Aztecs leading by 11, but Jalen Mayden fumbled the ball right back inside the 10, giving Fresno State life. But the defense would hold for SDSU, forcing a field goal try that they would block, giving them the ball right back.

After a 3 and out by SDSU, Jake Haener led an 11 play 80 yard drive that resulted in a touchdown. After a successful 2-point conversion, the Bulldogs trailed by just 3 points with 1:09 remaining. Fresno would recover the onside kick, and score a touchdown on their next play to stun the Aztecs. Maden made one last gasp effort to win the game, but threw an interception, sealing the meltdown for the Aztecs. Up next for San Diego State will be a home-date with Nevada nest Saturday.
