Pitcher who worked at FedEx to support family during pandemic makes MLB debut

Jose Cuas was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2015 as an infielder, but the organization had plans to convert him into a pitcher.  No easy task.

Cuas struggled, and was eventually released by the team.  He bounced around big league and independent league teams before landing with the Diamondbacks in 2019.  Then Covid hit, and once again he was released.

He ended up working as a FedEx driver to support his family during the pandemic though every day after his shift, he would work with his brother on his game.  Well, that hard work finally paid off as a couple of days ago, Cuas made his Major League debut.

Cuas was brought in to pitch in the fifth inning of the Kansas City Royals' game against the Cleveland Guardians where after a nine-pitch at bat, Cuas recorded the first strikeout of his MLB career.

Cuas told MLB.com following his first appearance in the Bigs, "It's a dream come true, being a kid from New York, everything I've been through in my playing career, to be here in a major-league stadium with a chance to pitch -- I can't even say I dreamed about it.  It's beyond my dreams."

Hopefully it's the first of many more to come.
