The Greenville County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release Sunday.
This morning, at around 5:30am, deputies responded to a call involving a Ford F-150 sitting alongside 6077 Locust Hill Road with its hazard lights on.
When deputies arrived and approached the vehicle they observed an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound, in the drivers seat. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
At this time investigators are on scene and do have hwy 290 shut down between Mush Creek and Duck Lane as they are investigating the incident.
The highway has since reopened after investigators searched the area for any potential evidence.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office is also investigating. An autopsy has been scheduled Monday to determine the cause and manner of death.
Update:
The Greenvile County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Jamie Dale Smith, 31, of Easley. The cause and manner of death are pending. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
