"Drag Queen Story Hour" Cancelled

The much debated Drag Queen Story Hour – in which four drag queens read stories to young children – has been a kind of wedge issue since it was announced that a local groups known as “Mom’s Liberal Happy Hour” was bringing the event to the Five Forks Branch of the Greenville Public Library.

A petition against the event racked up thousands of signatures, with a counter event planned out in the parking lot the same day.

Now it look like the original Drag Queen Story Hour event is cancelled – although not because of its subject matter.

A statement on the Library’s website said the organizers posted the story hour as a ticketed event on Eventbrite.com, violating the Library’s policy in that it therefore restricts admittance to only those who hold tickets, and it requires those attending an event in a library system meeting room to show ID.

As such, the event originally planned for this Sunday is now officially canceled.

It remains to be seen if organizers will rescheduled.
