With seven weeks left in the legislation session. South Carolina lawmakers are suddenly trying to move fast on the future of state-owned utility Santee Cooper.There were five legislative meetings scheduled Tuesday on the utility.A House subcommittee passed a resolution Tuesday that originally urged experts to send bids to lawmakers to sell Santee Cooper. It was changed to ask them to also gather any proposals for a firm to manage Santee Cooper without buying it.Senators also have Santee Cooper on their minds. Senate President Harvey Peeler filed a proposal last week allowing Gov. Henry McMaster to make the final decision whether to sell.The Senate Judiciary Committee has a proposal on Tuesday's agenda that would emphasize state law that only the General Assembly can sell the utility.
